South Falls Photo. Picture taken in Silver Falls State Park near Silverton Oregon. South Falls is an awesome sight from the top. The fall thunders 177 feet over the volcanic cliffs to a large pool filled with volcanic rocks below. This waterfall sounds like the Space Shuttle taking off, and it is 10 feet taller than Niagara Falls. And flowing over it is what Oregonians call a creek. To get a little perspective, look at the right side of this photo about hafway down where the greenery starts. You will see two tiny horizontal lines at the top of the greenery. That is a guardrail that goes halfway up my body, and I am just over six feet tall.
