Mormon
Rocks, Cajon Pass These photos were taken at Mormon Rocks in the Cajon Pass. The pink Cajon Sandstone Layers are uplifted and tilted by the action on the San Andreas Fault. Some of these formations are 350 feet high.
Some
of the formations are spacey-looking.
This one is about 80 feet tall.
This shot of one of the larger rocks (about 250 feet) shows the pinkness of the sandstone.
Size and perspective can make you dizzy sometimes scrambling among the rocks.
This view in the southern portion shows a large formation and Mt. San Antonio (Mt. Baldy) behind.
The largest formation on the north, which I climbed via the back.
Near the top, another shot of Baldy.
The
top of the big formation. To the left you can see the junction of the
I-15 and Hwy 138 far below,
A line of rocks embedded in the sandstone points to the top.
A large, rare waterfall cuts a deep metallic ribbon in the sandstone.
More pink sandstone.
Spring is trying to come.
The raptors are starting to nest in this spooky part of the rocks.
