Mojave Desert Colors
Photos by Lee Reeder, March 29, 2008

These photos were taken in Red Rock Canyon State Park and near the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve.

A carpet of Chinchweed provides a nice foreground for a rock formation in Hagen Canyon, which is my favorite part of Red Rock Canyon State Park, just 16 miles north of Mojave on Highway 14.

I noticed this tortoise because he was chomping so loud on the flowers.
I was not as close as this looks--this is a highly cropped portion of a photo.

In places in Red Rock Canyon it's like walking on... walking on... the Moon. These cliffs are about 80 feet high.

There are lots of great old fence posts near the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve.

If you go to the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve this year, go in the midde of April and shoot this shot about a half-mile east of the entrance along the road. The old tractor will be surrounded by poppies.

The Red Rock runs out of the canyon in the streams.

A big, fat, happy desert tortoise. Rare and happy to see one.

A spaceship flew by at the Poppy Reserve. Too bad I missed it...

Red Rock Canyon.

A closer shot. The "mushroom" in front is about 25 feet high.
