is a photo of a Teddy Bear Cholla (Opuntia bigelovii).
It is not cuddly as its name implies. To the left is a Mojave Mound
Cactus (Echinocereus polyacanthus) just starting to bloom. These photos
were taken in spring 2005—an especially wet year in Joshua Tree
