Prickly Poppies Along the Scenic Byway
by Lee Reeder

These Prickly Poppies (Argemone munita) were growing by the side of the Rim of the World Scenic Byway (Highway 138) near the shore of Silverwood Lake on the northern slopes of the San Bernardino Mountains. Prickly poppies may be found all over the high desert and chaparral in California from north to south in the late spring and early summer.
