California Poppies and Goldfields on a Ranch
by Lee Reeder

California Poppies (Eschscholzia californica) and Goldfields (Lasthenia californica) grow together on a ranch in the high desert of Southern California. This photo was taken about a mile east of the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve near Lancaster in the Mojave Desert. The outlying areas around the reserve often make much more interesting photo subjects than the flat orange of the reserve, which is often also very crowded with people in a good year.
