Beavertail
Cactus Double Flower Photo The
Beavertail Cactus (Opuntia basilaris) is a low-growing cactus that attracts
little attention until it briefly blooms in the spring with some of
the most awesome floral displays in the desert. Some plants may display
40 or 50 of these beautiful flowers. This photo was taken in Summit
Valley in California's Mojave Desert in spring 2005, which was an unusually
wet year in the high desert. |
