Crater Lake Photos
by Lee Reeder

Crater Lake photographs taken in June 2006. A remnant of the massive explosion of Mount Mazama nearly 7,000 years ago, Crater Lake, at more than 1,900 feet deep, is the deepest lake in the United States and seventh deepest in the world. I waited to photograph Crater Lake at one of the best times of the year—very early on a crystal-clear, windless mid-June morning, just hours after the northern entrance opened for the first time of the year, and before the public knew it was opening.
