The cove at the outlet of Blue Lake in the John Muir Wilderness reflects the mountains above tree line.
The mountain at right is higher than San Gorgonio, yet it is unnamed. Click here or on the photo above to order.

These are two of my kids: 11-year-old boy in the front, and 15-year-old girl at the top. Sadly, two USFS rangers we encountered along the way expressed their heartfelt thanks that we were bringing children into the wilderness. "We keep seeing fewer and fewer of them," one said.

This is Lake Sabrina, along the trail at the bottom of our hike on the first day.

There are three varieties of Columbine in this photo of the trail just below Blue Lake.
I had never seen so much Columbine growing together.

When we finally topped the rocky ridge at 10,400 feet, this sight greeted us near Blue Lake.

Hardy trees grow out of the rocks at Blue Lake.

Sunrise over Blue Lake.

Trees are twisted and beautiful here at treeline.

Great views on the way back down.

This is a photo of Mount Emerson and part of the Piute Crags from the trail above Lake Sabrina.
