Lee Reeder I am photographer and environmental, travel and health care writer who lives in the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California. I am also co-author (with David L. Porter) of the book Hell on Earth: The Wildfire Pandemic, which was released in August 2008. The book explores climate change and its growing effects on wildfires in the United States and around the world. In Hell on Earth, two authors who have experienced wildfire devastation firsthand put a human face on a global wildfire pandemic. Publisher's Weekly called it "...a rapidly-moving, thriller-like account." Click here to learn more about the book, which is now on sale in bookstores and online. I have been photographing scenery and nature since the age of 12 while hiking and backpacking with my first cameras (a Mamiya, a Miranda and a Konica) in Southern California. I have been developing my own photos since the age of 15. At the age of 19, I began working professionally as a photojournalist in the U.S. Army in West Germany. Photography has been a big part of a lifelong journalism career that has put me at the editorial and creative helms of several national and international magazines and journals. Although writing and editorial management have been the bulk of my work, photography has always been my passion. In 2004, at the age of 47, I created my scenic and nature photography business, 1000 Words. Since then I have traveled extensively in the West, capturing moments in nature. People consistently tell me I have "the eye," meaning a different perspective that sets my photography apart from that of others. It's partly that, but it's also the result of much patience and hard work. Anyway, I hope it all results in me sharing my passion for the natural beauty of our world through my own perspective, and for your enjoyment. Lee Reeder exclusively uses and enjoys the latest in Nikon® cameras and lenses. Although most of my work is digital, I do not use or own PhotoShop. Except for slight corrections in fade, clarity and brightness, what you see is what I photographed.
